Steve said "One of the most crucial steps in creating a fairer society is education. Within the current system pupils from poorer backgrounds are falling behind early and many are not able to catch up. The biggest factor in determining a child's future chances in life is still their parents income. The Liberal Democrats think this is wrong. We will target education funds towards those schools and pupils who need it most. We must ensure that every child is helped to reach their full potential."
"Under Labour the gap between the rich and poor has grown, and more children are leaving school unable to read or write and without any qualifications. The Labour and Conservative response has been to foist Academies on local communities regardless of what people want, as is happening at the Oxford School. We believe that targeted extra funding to cut class sizes and provide more catch up tuition will do far more to help children and young people than the Labour and Conservative back door privatisation of our education system."
