Commenting on the series of revelations coming out in the wake of the Iraq inquiry, Dr Steve Goddard, Oxford East Liberal Democrats' parliamentary spokesman said:
"It is clear now that many of the things the Liberal Democrats said at the time were right. Blair's New Labour had sided with Bush and made up his mind to launch this illegal, immoral and disastrous war as far back as 2002. It is clear that the legal basis for the war was extremely shaky. There can be no doubt now that the intelligence on Iraq's WMDs was nowhere near as strong as made out by New Labour."
"Now the enquiry has revealed that new evidence that Iraq had very limited WMD capabilities at best on the eve of the invasion was dismissed. It is clear that Tony Blair and New Labour were determined to start this illegal, immoral and disastrous war, no matter what the facts or human cost."
"As a Cabinet Minister, and whole hearted supporter of this terrible atrocity, our New Labour MP must take his share of responsibility for the violent destruction of Iraq, the loss of our troops lives and the hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths."
